Bit's and pieces. 21 jan 2013.

I've just filtered and racked my began in june mushroom liquer.I'll let it settle down a month or  so and then we'll get down to some serious tasting.
I've got frozen and dried mushrooms to last until summer-also i've made loads of chutney and pickles plus jams and assorted liquers.
My new project this year has been sloe-gin(3 kinds)and i'll see in summer how it's turned out.

WINTER'S TALE,second part (all due to a wine- tasting,etc,etc.)

We left gijon at 8 am and 135kms on we were by a favourite pine-wood near boal, here in asturias.

Black skies, 2 degees, icy winds, enough to freeze the b s off a brass monkey and nobody in sight. But to our pleasant surprise we found the ground covered with hydnums and in tip-top condition..
A couple of hours later with baskets full we made off to another wood, some 200 metres higher up the mountain and there we got a few trumpet chanterelle ,more hedgehog mushrooms, until around 12-30, the heavens opened and down came hail, sleet, rain and god knows what else.
So cutting the story short,we had a great meal for 12 euros and drove home in atrocious conditions and decided enough until march when we'll begin with our beloved morels.
Today,a rabbit stew with mushrooms, cooked in red wine and herbs and tomorrow who knows. Now down to freezing and drying and the good life.

A WINTER'S TALE. 20th jan 2013.

Hey-ho,off we go! Last year we finished mushrooming around the 18th of december, but we've gone on till now due to milder weather and perhaps luck and inspiration.
As we don't `traffic´in mushrooms (so many do in this neck of the woods), petrol costs can be high -but everyone digs in on food as well,so it doesn't work out too badly.
So in dec we were still getting tricholoma portentosum( the dingy one),tricholoma terreum(the grey one) and one of my favourites, cantharellus tubaeformis (a trumpet chanterelle).Ah, of course, plenty of hydnum repandum( hedgehog mushroom). We got these here in asturias,in leon and when i went to visit P in burgos.
Therefore freezing and drying was the order of the day so the house was a delicious mixture of mushroomy smells for a few weeks.
But winter still didn't want to come so we ventured out on more forays( with the snow-chains on board),normally Juan(recently retired and always raring to go) and myself.Well perhaps our last winter trip was the day before yesterday and what a day it was! Second part tomorrow.

Saludos

Queridos seteros:
